Before speaking about the places of interests in Moscow I’d like to say that I am happy to live here. Many of you can object that it is a noisy, a dirty and a large city. Perhaps, but It is a place which gives you many opportunities to create, to develop, to become someone in life. So, what can I tell you about my beloved city?
First of all, we will speak about the history of Moscow. It began in 1147 when Yuri Dolgouruki founded the city. And year from year it became bigger and bigger, more and more powerful. It was the centre of many struggles. For example, the war from tartar yoke was for liberation in the 13th centure. Later Moscow was made the centre of the united country since the time of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. But in 1712 imperator Peter the Great founded a new capital — St. Petersburg. But everyone concidered that Moscow had been the heart of the country. Even Napoleon’s army wanted to control this town. But nothing came out of it. The citizens had burnt down the city before leaving in 1812. But later it was rebuilt. In 1917 Moscow became the capital again.
Nowadays Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation. The total area is 900 sq kilometers. The length of streets is 4350 kilometers. If you want to go on foot you will have to walk non-stop for 36 days. The population is more than 10 million. People of different nationalities live here. It is a cultural and industrial centre. The life is rich in cultural and political events. There are many theatres, museums, exhibitions and other places that are worth visiting. One of the most famous picture galleries is the State Tretyakov Gallery. It contains over 50 thousand sculptures, drawings, paintings representing the history of Russia from the 11th century to the present days. The State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts is also the well-known museum. There are some famous theatres in Moscow: the Bolshoy Theatre, the Maly Theatre and other modern theatres.
Moscow is the center of Russian science. The heart of the educational system in Russia is Moscow State University on the Vorobyovi Hills. It includes many colleges, universities, libraries and schools. The Kremlin is called the heart of Moscow. It is the oldest historical and architectural center of the city. There you can see outstanding historic monuments. Among them are Diamond Fond, the Cathedral of Assumption, Armory Chamber, the Cathedral of Saint Basil and others. It is one of the highest buildings in Europe: 540 meters. It was built in 1961-1968 by Nikitin.
Moscow is the birthplace for many talented politicians, writers, singers, actors and other famous people.
